One of the great things about the Nokia N900 is the fact that it is highly customizable to your liking. You can change pretty much anything from wallpapers, number of desktops, icon placement etc. though this is a good thing, I developed a slight case of OCD form customizing my home screens. It got to a point where I would move my icons about 2px every 10min. Well like I always say for every woe, there is an app for that. In this case the “Desktop Activity Manager“
Self explanatory the application lets you manage your N900 desktops. It allows you to create multiple profiles based on the desktop wallpaper, icon/widget placement and number of desktops. Installing the application adds the Desktop Activity applet to your status menu as shown below
Clicking on the app opens up the Desktop Activity Manager. Once in the app you have the option to Select profile, Create, Delete or Rename a profile.
As you can see I have multiple profiles which I will talk about a little bit more detail
Defaults: This is my default profile, very simple and gives me access to basic things such as calendar, messages and music.
Media: My media profile is more of Music, Pictures and Video. As you can see from the image below I have all music, podcast, camera, and video contec=nt creation and consumption apps on here.
Office: This profile is what I usually have on Monday to Friday during my 9-5. Quick access to emails, work contacts, calendar and Office files.
Social: The social profile is what I have on when I get more into social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. It gives me quick access to people I talk to on a regular basis, IM and text messages, Facebook and Twitter feeds.
Simple: This like I call it is my battery savior profile. No widgets, one home screen and quick access to my most used apps
Games: The games profile is used when I’m trying to kill time and get some gaming in. All my emulators and games right from the home page
Road Trip: When I’m driving, the Road Trip profile comes in handy. Quick access to map navigation, music and podcasts for when I’m driving.
Well that’s it from my Desktop Activity Manager profiles. Curious to find out what profiles you have!!!
